The word Simurgh is a combination of the Persian words “si," which means 30, and “murg," which means bird. It is thought to be a creature that is the size of 30 birds, by some, while others theories suggest this refers to its age (30 centuries), its size (30 meters), or its feathers (30 colors).
What is agreed upon is the bird's benevolence. She is a font of all knowledge having lived so long that she knows everything there is to know. She is a protector of the natural world, and can manipulate the elements; wind, fire, water and earth.
A massive, striking bird to look at, her feathers can heal, her eyes can see through anything, and her voice can be understood by all creatures.
The simurgh appears in variations among many different cultural mythologes, the phoenix being one of these. And like that bird of flames, the simurgh periodically burns itself to arise anew.
Book Seven in The Diabolus Chronicles carries her name. The Simurgh, the penultimate book in the series, marks a point of no return for Pitch and Silas. This ancient creature will be their salvation or their ruin, and is not quite so benevolent as the mythology tells.
