from 11 reviewsI'm currently reading book 6, can't put them down till I finish. Such a great story. Full emersion in the story of Patch and Sickle. Onward we go.
Well, this book was quite a longread. But I enjoyed it pretty well. The guys do make a great team and after what they endured now, I really do not like to see them separated again.
Now that I am halfway into the series and get some glimpses of what they might face, I know book five will be the next I am starting.
Well, it started with a bandalore. After that the ankou got a demon bodyguard. Now the striker comes along.
To be honest: it is hard not to get drawn into the world of Silas and Pitch on their way to kill monsters.
I am actually changing my mind on Pitch. I am starting to like him.
OMG, what did I just read? Don't mind. Things are becoming clear, or falling apart here. i just slammed my reader to get Pitch. Now I know I did not really hurt him. This dude seems to like it, sort of.
This book takes off where the first one landed. Now I feel a little less sorry for Silas for having to endure Pitch. To be honest: they seem to be the right pair to accomplish something. What? This is the reason I want to continue reading.
The story took me by surprise at some point. I just gets stranger and I really want to know why these two characters belong togheter.
I normally am not much into Facebook advertising, but I just stumbled upon the ads for these books and felt a need to feed my reader.
As a native Dutch speaker, I usually read in my language, but since I can also read English, I gave it a go and I am blown away by this book and longing to read on. Yes, eight books will be a reading marathon, but I am so intrigued by it, that I really want to know where this is going.
To be honest: I really love the characters. One exception: Tobias "Pitch" Astaroth. He is so annoying, I actually slapped my reader to get him. Still, he is annoying in a way you must love him as well. He seems the opposite of poor Silas "Sickle" Mercer that arose from the dead to endure him. No, it was for another mission.
I really love the twist this author gave to folklore. Yes, being a writer myself and into the occult, I do know about Black Annis and so on, but I never thought of those stories in that way.
Some say this book takes a slow start. To be honest: I do not know how it could have gone faster.
I hate staircases and at some point in the story, I really hated them and will not listen to Stairway To Heaven in another way.
If you love mystery, folklore, the occult and demons walking around ... This novel is perfect.
Yea gods, is this a fitting end to the series or what. As you know I was late to this series but I am very glad I was there at the end. How on earth this author managed to conjure up a story of this magnitude I don’t really know. I absolutely loved it, especially the ending which I didn’t see coming either. Highly recommended.
Wow! What a Fantastimagorical ride this series has been and this last one will have you laughing, crying, anxious, hopeful and an entire range of emotions that culminates in a heart stopping finish! Will the various players have to sacrifice themselves to save the world? Or worse yet…will they have to sacrifice even more?
Everything is on the line in the end… DK GIRL you are without a doubt in the ranks of Tolkien in your ability to build world and create characters we come to care about and root for. I hope one day we see this series on the big screen! Brava!
The first novel started at a bit of a slower pace, but built up into a lovely gruesome climax. I quickly continued to book two and was not disappointed. I was beginning to wonder if Pitch was ever going to become likeable right about the time he did. I was supposed to go do chores the day I finished book two, but instead I started and finished book three. Unfortunately, I had to go to work, so I stayed up late each night this week to finish book four. I'm about to go buy book five.
My first experience with this genre, and I'm hooked. DK Girl takes you on a trip into a different world. Fantastically written with gloriously painted scenes. Well fleshed out characters with smart mouths and loads of attitude. I'm hooked.
Wow! What a fantastic start to this series with two completely different and interesting characters. Silas and Pitch are thrown together against both their better judgements. If they don’t kill each other in the process, they will make a formidable team as they deal with supernatural evils that plague humanity, often without their knowledge. Silas is adorable and his efforts to find out who he is, and what he is, makes for an engrossing and often humorous read. Pitch is… Pitch – entirely unpredictable, often mysterious, and more than willing to shatter social norms and customs in the stiff-upper-lip of this Victorian setting. I loved the mystery and the gaslamp atmosphere of this story. There is a sense of much more to come with the novel’s end, both with the mythic expanse of the world and with Silas and Pitch, and I can’t wait to learn more!
Such a great read. "Upon his unexpected return to the world of the living Silas finds himself in the hands of the mysterious Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. A peculiar organisation claiming skills of the supernatural persuasion." I loved that we, along with Silas, have no idea why he has been brought back to life and what his purpose will be, and that this is slowly revealed to us alongside Silas. It's gritty and it's dark. I'm a huge fan of the supernatural genre and this does not disappoint. The characters, and the settings, are beautifully brought to life by Danielle K. Girl. I love Silas, and at first (just like Silas), I loathe Pitch, but this changes as the story comes to life and I find myself getting attached to the two, very different, lead characters. Highly recommended. I can't wait for book 2.
